Cocaine Cowboys

The cocaine trade of the 70s and 80s had an indelible impact on contemporary Miami. Smugglers and distributors forever changed a once sleepy retirement community into one of the world’s most glamorous hot spots; the epicenter of a $20 billion annual business fed by Colombia’s Medellin cartel. By the early 80s, Miami’s tripled homicide rate had made it the murder capital of the country, for which a Time cover story dubbed the city “Paradise Lost.” With COCAINE COWBOYS, filmmaker Billy Corben paints a dazzling portrait of a cultural explosion that still echoes as Hollywood myth.

3 out of 10 Cocaine Cowboys...
Alan from Dublin, 17 Feb 2009
Interesting insight into the drug trade, the money that was being made and the key players involved. Quite humourous in parts. This is however in documentary format so don't be expecting a slick moving film. Quite enjoyable if you're into docu-films.

3.5 out of 10 Worth a look
Niall from Dublin, 19 Mar 2009
After the first five minutes I thought - "this was a mistake". Very old 80's music, and some dodgy voiceover. However the docu is saved by the charistmactic contributors who shoot from the hip. God I wish I was in the cocaine trade in the 80's!

1.5 out of 10 Poorly crafted
Robert from Dublin, 29 Aug 2011
Very disappointing documentary. Although it plenty of interesting stories to tell, it was not put together with any flowing structure. No beginning - middle - end , just a continuous array of the same 4or 5 sequence types.
