Buffalo 66 (1998)

After serving a five year sentence for a crime he didn’t commit, a bitter, violence-prone Billy Brown (Vincent Gallo who also directs) is released from prison. Billy is hell-bent on convincing his dysfunctional parents that he is leading a respectable life and has spent the last five years doing top-secret CIA work. To back up his story he impulsively kidnaps Layla (Christina Ricci) and forces her to pose as his girlfriend. Layla's understanding of the comical grimness of Billy's life leads him to explore new levels of redemption, acceptance and ultimately…love.

4.5 out of 10 Buffalo 66

100% arthouse and a budget movie. With the finest of acting, top notch acting. This movie is one of those rare gems. If your truly interested in seeing incredible acting coupled with a humorous but also a very dark script which is not predictable and is very well written. I found this movie fantastic and it really gives you more insight into the human mind and how the people around us and the life we grew up in can really affect us. Loved it. Linda.

3.5 out of 10 Slow and deliberate
Ciaran from Dublin, 01 Jun 2007
A character study of the lead, this is a slow paced look at the life of a very nasty person indeed. Gallo plays the (suggested partial auto-biographical) lead as a recently released prisoner with nothing in his life but two dysfunctional parents, a handicapped 'friend' and a wish to kill an ex-football star. He hooks up with the fantastic Ricci and they slowly get into each other as he prepares to throw it all away. Interesting.

Avant Garde nonesense, containing some of the most unlikeable characters i have ever encountered. Watching and listening to Vincent Gallo's character Billy, is the cinematic equivilent to fingernails scrapeing on a blackboard. Only barely saved by some clever shots and editing.

3.5 out of 10 Something Different
Andrew from Wicklow, 05 Oct 2007
A nasty lead role you can't help but feel empathy for and very well shot. The product of messed up parents makes mistakes, suffers the concequences and maybe finds what he's been looking for! Well worth watching purely because it's a little off kilter.
